Finding Inspiration

Finding inspiration to write is tough. It might be one of the toughest things to do in all of the writing. Everyone is different and everyone seems to have their own process. I believe that finding inspiration is a part of the writing process as a whole.

“Why can’t I find inspiration to write?”

We have all been there. Wanting to write, but not quite knowing what content to produce. I’ve come to realize that a big problem I have is waiting for the story to come to me. This is not the way to handle things at all! If you want to write, you need to write. Don’t be scared to put your thoughts down on the page. The worst thing that can happen is deleting the words you just wrote. But that experience will give you more practice and hopefully an idea.

Live Your Life

Living your life seems overrated these days. People are so consumed with “hustling,” to make money. They believe they need to work themselves into the ground in order to make X amount of dollars to be truly happy.

This is the complete opposite of what I’m suggesting. If you are looking to find inspiration for your writing, go live your life. Talk a walk outside in nature, experiment with meditation or yoga, try the new restaurant you’ve driven by eight times in the last two days. There is no reason to lock yourself in a basement and constantly produce story after story after story. Go live your life and find the inspiration that you need!

I wish I was better at this. To some extent, I’m okay at it. Currently, I don’t have a job. Which means that I normally live out my days in the way that I want to. Although I don’t have a job, sometimes I misinterpret things I want to do as things I have to do. It’s crazy how that mental shift can be the difference between stress and relaxation. Doing things because you WANT to do them is a lot better mentality than doing things because you NEED to do them.

Where Does My Inspiration Come From?

That is a tough question. The best answer I can give you is from everywhere, and that’s the honest truth. I believe that inspiration is something that can hit you at any moment. It could be watching the sports game, watching the news, scrolling Twitter, walking outside, or cutting your Porkchop. Anything in life can give you the inspiration that you are looking for. But you won’t find that inspiration if you aren’t ready for it.

I’ve found that being inspired has been more of a spectrum. Some times I’m more inspired than other times, but there hasn’t been any reason why that’s the case. At least until now. I’ve found that opening my mind up has allowed for inspiration to flow through my body with more power than before. The urge to write used to be enough, but now it takes more.

Have control over your mind and emotions. Although yourself to feel your entire body. Start to consume all of life with this concentration over yourself. This will create a feeling of intense inspiration when encountering something in life. This encounter will provide you with inspiration because you are ready for it.

What Can You Do To Be Inspired?

Writing is tough, but finding inspiration is tougher. The urge to write used to be enough for you, but you are struggling now. Inspiration is something that you find few and far between, but you want to be inspired. Here are some things that you can do to be inspired:

Photo by Jonathan Forage on Unsplash
  • Live your life
  • Take walks outside in nature
  • Experiment with yoga or meditation
  • Go to the new restaurant or bar that you’ve wanted to try
  • Understand who you are and what you want.
  • Be present, don’t just sit on the couch and scroll your phone. Watch the show that’s on, participate in the conversation that’s going on at dinner.
  • Want to be inspired. If you want to be inspired, it will be much easier for you to find something that pushes you in that direction.

There are a lot of other things that could be included in this list. The last thing I’m going to say is that everyone is different. Everyone will view and be affected differently by the same thing. While one person may be inspired by something, another person could be disgusted. Because of that, always keep your mind open and be ready to be inspired.
